New York’s Hidden Islands

This is a teaser for a short documentary, I am currently developing.

“I couldn't just pretend that my life could go on as normal. I had to look at them. I had to know where they were.” This was artist Accra Shepp’s reaction when he first heard that NYC was made up of some 40 islands. Since then, Shepp has embarked on a 10 year long journey to photograph every island from Far Rockaway to Sandy Hook with a box camera reminiscent of another century. Braving oceans, storms, tides and treacherous marshes, Shepp is now reaching the end of his adventure.
